Through an Executive Decree issued by the National Government, the suspension of the working day nationwide was ordered for both the public sector and the private sector on Friday, January 2, 2026.

As a result of this provision, the national holiday corresponding to January 1, 2026 is extended, establishing mandatory rest days from Thursday, January 1 through Sunday, January 4, 2026.

The suspended working day will be non-recoverable. Nevertheless, continuity of essential public services will be ensured, such as: drinking water, electric power, health services, fire departments, air/land/river terminals, as well as banking services. For this purpose, the highest authorities of public-sector institutions, entities, and bodies must assign the minimum indispensable personnel to ensure adequate attention to the needs of the community.
